Curriculum
Konocti Christian Academy is proud to offer an academically challenging, yet well-rounded curriculum to our students. Our teachers effectively instruct within the following areas:
Bible-Bible study and memorization are taught daily in each class. The Bible, textbooks, and teacher-prepared materials provide activities and discussion questions, all pointing to the sovereignty of God and our relationship to Him as His children. Every Friday our students and staff worship together in a school-wide chapel service. We have a student-led worship team and a rotation of speakers from local clergy/community members.
Math-All classes use Saxon Math for daily instruction. Saxon effectively employs spiral learning in each problem set, the use of manipulatives, and daily drills. Upon entering KCA each student is assessed to determine placement in the appropriate math group. These groups are taught at the same time school-wide to facilitate the movement of some students between classrooms, as necessary.
Reading/Language Arts-Literature is integral to every subject at KCA. Our teachers incorporate both fiction and non-fiction into reading development, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and writing instruction.
Writing-KCA successfully teaches writing with the Institute of Excellence program. Students begin learning in the primary grades how to take notes, create outlines, write rough drafts, edit, and produce final products, all leading to independent composition of fiction and non-fiction.
History-As per our scope and sequence, each student has the opportunity to study local, regional, state, national, and world history, as well as geography/map skills. Each teacher specifically designs activities and assignments for his/her class by using a variety of texts, literature, visual aids, and historical documentation.
Science-Most of our classes use the ACSI Purposeful Design series. Our scope and sequence provides each student throughout their years at KCA with a broad base of studies in life, physical, earth/space, and the human body.
P.E.-Students participate in Physical Education class twice weekly.
Field Trips-In order to enhance and supplement coursework, we provide our students a variety of field trips each year. These can include experiences involving science, history, the arts, literature, and acts of service.
